Susie Xu worked as branch Customer Service Advisor for more than two years before joining our Level 4 Data Analyst Apprenticeship.

She had always had a passion for data and researched Python and analysis in her spare time. So, when the opportunity arose, she applied for a Data Analyst vacancy that included this apprenticeship. The chance to take it was a key reason why she applied for the job.

Susie started the 18-month apprenticeship in September 2021. It includes four on-site courses:

  • Intro to Data Analytics
  • Analytics in Practice
  • Advanced Analytics
  • and Communication Insights, which focuses on soft skills.

Balancing her job, study, and 10 portfolio evidence projects
was intense, but Susie made it work and her Firebrand Learning Mentor nominated for Lloyds Banking Group Apprentice of the Year 2022. Her Line Manager was very supportive too.

According to Susie, taking this apprenticeship was a turning-point that allowed her to apply for a new job as Senior Analyst in the Statistical Data Analysis team.

To her surprise, her team wanted her to start straight away, before the apprenticeship even finished. At the end of the apprenticeship, she will receive a Level 4 qualification from BCS.

“I absolutely enjoyed my learning experience with Firebrand! The training has helped me acquire applicable skills and knowledge relevant to my role, which enable me to perform well. I would tell anyone considering an apprenticeship to just go for it!”
