What you'll learn

On this accelerated Firebrand Cyber Incident Responder & Manager course, you’ll gain an understanding of how to respond to cyber attacks.

A major cyber-attack is not an IT problem; it is a live crime scene requiring a coordinated command response. When a company's data is taken hostage and its operations are crippled, the decisions made in the first 48 hours are critical. This intensive five-day course is designed to equip SIOs and Investigators with the skills and perspective needed to successfully manage these complex incidents.

Over five immersive days, participants are plunged into a realistic, escalating cyber crisis. Starting with a single, ambiguous digital alert, the incident rapidly evolves into a complex corporate extortion case with national security implications, testing the teams at every stage.

This course runs on a unique twin-track system, allowing participants to master skills specific to their role:

For SIOs & Managers (The Incident Management Team)

Operating at a strategic level as the Senior Investigating Officer (SIO), you will be challenged to make high-stakes decisions based on limited technical intelligence. You will learn to command the "golden hour" of the crisis, navigate the complex legal and commercial pressures faced by a victim, and manage a multi-agency response. This track focuses on strategic command, risk management, and the art of briefing Gold Command.

  • Lead cyber-related cases with clarity
  • Understand how cyber incidents unfold
  • Coordinate early actions and preserve golden hour evidence
  • Liaise with tech, legal, comms, and command structures
  • Understand GDPR, RIPA, PACE in digital investigations
  • Participate in strategic simulations and decision-making

For Investigators & Responders (The Technical Response Cell)

Working as the hands-on investigators, you will be tasked with making sense of a rich, pre-prepared dataset that reflects the live intrusion. You will interpret digital evidence, identify the attacker's footprints, and practice the critical skill of briefing command. This track hones your ability to turn raw data into clear, actionable intelligence your SIO needs to set the investigative strategy.

  • Build confidence using digital evidence in investigations
  • Understand logs, artefacts, malware traces
  • Hands-on labs: how evidence is generated and preserved
  • Apply forensic logic to create strong case narratives
  • Collaborate effectively with DFUs and technical teams
  • Produce clear MG11/SFR-style reports

Joint Benefits:

  • Unified approach to cyber incidents
  • Shared daily exercises for alignment
  • Scenario: escalating attack on UK business & CNI
  • Practical, policing-first design (not IT-focused)

This course doesn’t teach technical skills — it builds investigative power. Officers and leaders will be equipped to interpret digital evidence, ask the right questions, and respond confidently at digital-first crime scenes.

In just 5 days, you’ll also be able to:

  • Confidently apply command and control principles to a live "crime in action" digital incident.
  • Translate complex technical information into strategic risk, investigative opportunities, and clear briefings for senior leadership.
  • Effectively manage the conflicting priorities of multiple stakeholders (legal, law enforcement partners, national security).
  • Develop a deeper, empathetic understanding of the victim's perspective, improving your ability to build trust and gather evidence.
  • Make and document critical decisions under pressure in a realistic, simulated environment.
  • Produce clear, defensible evidential summaries and intelligence reports from complex digital material.

At the end of this course, you’ll achieve your Firebrand Cyber Incident Responder & Manager certification. Through Firebrand’s Lecture | Lab | Review methodology, you’ll get certified at twice the speed of traditional training and get access to courseware, learn from certified instructors, and train in a distraction-free environment.
