5.1 Collect Requirements |
Involves gathering and documenting stakeholders’ requirements, in a way that allows for ease of traceability, with as much detail as possible on functionality and attributes. Outputs include the Requirements Traceability Matrix and Requirements Assignment Matrix. |
5.2 Define Scope |
Prioritise and get agreement on the project and product requirements, document the agreed product and project scope, describing the project deliverables and producing the Project Scope Statement. This Scope Statement will contain a list of project deliverables, product acceptance criteria, exclusions, constraints and assumptions. It may contain pre-requisites which are aspects of the project which are in place and have to remain in place for the project to succeed. |
5.3 Create WBS |
Use the deliverables list to produce a Work Breakdown Structure, whose top level are products which are described using nouns (names) and lower levels will be the activities required to produce these products. Looking at this diagram, the reader is able to see what makes up the products or deliverables, see that nothing is missing and can use this to validate the completeness of the work later on. |
5.4 Validate Scope |
This process is involved with verifying the scope has been met, that the customer or stakeholders are happy with the quality (fitness for purpose) of the finished work and ready to accept them going into operational use (acceptance records and handover records), and that the project objectives are satisfied. |
5.5 Control Scope |
This process is concerned with monitoring the status of the project and the product scope, any changes arising or required to both, and monitoring the work results to ensure they conform to what was required, the expected outcomes or outputs. This may result in change requests raised by you, the PM, for a decision by the CCB, as they may impact on project scope. |
