Overview
The Unified Communications course is designed to give students an introduction into the concepts of Unified Communications plus an insight into the enterprise capabilities of Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007. Through a mixture of lecture and practical exercises students will deploy OCS 2007 and be made aware of the product features. The course is designed for those who are looking to deploy OCS 2007. The course can be used as preparation towards the Microsoft OCS certification exam.
Course Objectives
The primary objective is for students to obtain an understanding of Microsoft’s vision of Unified Communications. As part of the course, students will:
- Deploy an Office Communications Server 2007 infrastructure
- Configure and test voice and telephony features within OCS 2007
- Be aware of the concepts of the rich presence model and rich presence information data format
- Investigate the capabilities of web conferencing within OCS 2007

Conferencing
- Standard on-premise conferencing
- Enterprise on-premise conferencing
- Categories of participants within on-premise conferencing
- Deployment of conferencing solutions
- Sharing documents in a web conference
- Using Microsoft Live meeting
Voice Architecture
- Telephony components within the PBX environment
- Introduction to Session Initiation Protocol
- Integration of OCS with PBX’s
- Using OCS telephony within the enterprise
- Signalling within a telephony environment
- Implementation considerations
Customising with OCS 2007
- Using presence controls with custom Windows applications
- Using presence controls with custom Web applications
- Automated agent applications
- RTC API and custom applications
Exam Track
