Top 10 IT and tech jobs in 2025

Could one of them be right for you?

Did you know that US users can call ChatGPT on their phones by dialling 1-800-CHATGPT (1-800-242-8478)?

As the expansion of AI continues, 2025 is shaping up to take human-machine collaboration to a new level. Which IT jobs are prospected to increase this year? Which areas of IT should you consider upskilling in? Let's take a look.

1. AI

Depending on their industry and size, companies are increasingly integrating AI professionals into their IT teams.

If you'd like to upskill into this, a great place to start is getting Microsoft certified. Microsoft has a history of innovation and have been at the forefront of AI developments since this started.

The comprehensive Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Fundamentals course, also known as AI-900, offers a great overview of the fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, and Natural Language Processing. As you specialise, you may be interested in the Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Engineer Associate (AI-102).

Last but not least, as Copilot is becoming a household name, the course Microsoft Certified: Craft Effective Prompts for Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365 (MS-405) can help you make the most of this excellent tool.

2. Cyber Security

As technology continues to evolve, so do the ways to use it for fraud, which is why Cyber Security Specialists remain an essential part of any company.

There are different types of Cyber Security Specialists based on their area of focus — Network Security Specialists, Incident Responders, Information Security Analysts, Security Architects, Cloud and Application Security Specialists, and many more. Aside from protecting companies from Cyber Security incidents, they play a crucial role in creating a cyber-safe culture at work.

Cyber Security roles often require a combination of training, certifications, and practical experience, and continuous professional development to stay up-to-date with the latest trends.

If you have at least 2 years of experience in IT administration with a security focus, you can take the well-known and respected Security+ certification developed by CompTIA. To specialise, you could opt to become a Penetration (Pen) Tester, Ethical Hacker (CEH®), or a Certified Information Security Manager® (CISM®) to reach more senior roles.

3. Data Analysis

AI is a fantastic tool, but its output is only as good as its input. How AI is used across a company depends to a large extent on the type and quality of data that it can be trained on.

For this reason, demand for Data Scientists is expected to grow in 2025 and beyond. CompTIA Data+ can give you a comprehensive foundation on using data to drive business priorities and strategies.

To specialise, you could take the Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate (DP-203), which teaches you to implement data solutions on Microsoft Azure and work with Cloud DBAs, Admins, and Solutions Architects.

4. Project Management

IT Project Managers plan, execute, and close IT projects within an organization, ensuring they're completed on time, within scope, and within budget. IT Project Managers also oversee execution, implement Quality Assurance, and manage risk. With the advent of AI, companies have an increasing need to plan exactly how to implement this technology, driving up demand for these roles.

If you find that you're naturally the one who keeps track of various projects, be they IT or personal, if you have a keen eye for detail and can communicate well, becoming an IT Project Manager may be a smart career move.

At Firebrand, we offer accelerated training certifications from the most well-known and respected Project Management organizations, including classic courses such as the PRINCE2 Agile® Foundation and Practitioner certification, the Agile Project Management (AgilePM®) Foundation & Practitioner, and Scrum.org's Scrum Master™ I (PSM™ I). These comprehensive courses can help you develop the skills and knowledge to be a successful PM and attest this with certification.

5. Cloud

In 2025, AI is predicted to accelerate business development across all sectors and seamlessly integrate with the cloud, driving demand for Cloud Specialists.

Cloud Specialists design, implement, and optimize cloud-based solutions according to their company's strategy. They also keep a close eye on Cloud security, regulatory compliance, costs, and other vitals.

Depending on your interest, you could train to become a Cloud Networking Specialist, Cloud Architect, Multi-Cloud Specialist, Cloud Machine Learning Specialist, or even something as niche as a Cloud Cost Management Specialist.

In terms of training, you cannot go wrong with CompTIA Cloud Essentials+, the Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104), or the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (CLF-C02).

6. Business Intelligence

There can be quite a bit of overlap between Business Analysts and Data Scientists (See number 3), especially since they use similar software such as Microsoft Excel, SQL, and Tableau.

While Data Analysts analyze data to derive actionable insights that support decision-making, Business Analysts focus on understanding and improving business processes, workflows, and systems. Unlike Data Scientists, Business Analysts often work with qualitative data in addition to the quantitative key performance indicators (KPIs).

If you have a methodical and strategic mindset, you can upskill in Business Analysis and help your company become even more efficient. The Foundation Certificate in Business Analysis and Practitioner Certificate in Business Analysis Practice, both developed by the British Computer Society, BCS, also known as The Chartered Institute for IT, and can help you develop the skills to analyse, model, and communicate about complex business systems.

7. Data Protection

Closely related to Cyber Security and also set to grow during the age of AI, Data Protection is in steady high demand. AI needs to be fed large amounts of data; how can we ensure its safety and compliance with industry regulations?

Data Protection professionals have a keen eye for detail. They often come with a legal background and experience in compliance and risk management. Working with IT, Data Protection professionals oversee a company's Data Protection strategies and practices (such as Algorithmic Transparency), conduct impact assessments, and identify potential risks. As Data Protection laws and technologies are constantly evolving, these professionals are committed to continuous learning.

If you'd like to reskill into Data Protection and help companies navigate the ethical challenges associated with AI, a great place to start is the Foundations of Privacy and Data Protection course developed by the International Association of Privacy Professionals, also known as IAPP. As you understand GDPR basics, consider the Certified Data Protection Officer Training (CDPO) course by PECB, and, if you'd like to specialise in Microsoft, the Microsoft Certified: Information Protection Administrator Associate (SC-400).

8. App & Web Development

A longstanding top IT profession, App and Web Developers aren't going anywhere. In the age of AI, they are needed to create and maintain systems, ensuring their flexibility and adaptability to the cloud.

App Developers code, program, test, optimize, and do version control, among many other tasks. Web Developers can do front-end work like writing HTML, CSS, or JavaScript code or implementing responsive design, or do back-end development like server-side logic, databases, APIs, Content Management Systems (CMS), and other vital aspects.

If you'd like to join the profession, consider an intensive course such as Software Development Fundamentals, or, perhaps, a Software Apprenticeship. To delve deeper into your software of choice, take a look at Python Programming or Android App Development. Programming languages have a lot more in common than you realize; start with the one that feels most natural to you and progress to others.

9. DevOps

Another classic IT role, DevOps Engineer remains a top career choice in the age of AI.

As the name suggests, this role sits at the overlap between Software Development and IT Operations. These professionals streamline collaboration and communication between these two departments, ensuring that the software products they develop are high-quality and efficient.

As part of this, they engage in CI/CD, Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment, configuring Infrastructure as Code (IaC), manage Configurations, Releases, Containerization and Orchestration (using tools such as Docker and Kubernetes), and use Terraform or Ansible to bring their projects to life.

If you think this role could be for you, the Foundation Certificate in DevOps developed by BCS can give you a thorough breakdown of the skills this role entails. Depending on your company's tech stack or your own preference, the AWS Certified DevOps Engineer Professional (DOP-C02) certification and Microsoft Certified: Azure DevOps Engineer Expert (AZ-400) are solid choices to develop your skills.

10. Machine Learning

Closely tied to Data and AI, Machine Learning trains AI algorithms on data that has been carefully prepared for this use.

ML Experts design, develop, and deploy Machine Learning models. Keen problem-solvers, they work closely with stakeholders to understand the business issue that Machine Learning can address and define it in a way that enables technology to tackle it.

This complex process includes data collection, data preprocessing, feature engineering, choosing appropriate ML algorithms, model training, evaluation, and validation.

If you're interested in this, Google Cloud Fundamentals offer Big Data and Machine Learning (SQL experience required). If your company uses AWS, you might be interested in the Amazon Web Services Certified Machine Learning — Specialty (MLS-C01).
