ICT Technician Firebrand Training

Become an ICT Technician with IT Apprenticeships

IT Apprenticeships are a great opportunity to reskill or upskill into tech.

One of our most popular vacancies is Information Communication Technician (ICT). What does an ICT Technician do? Could this job be for you? Let's find out.

What is an ICT Technician?

An Information Communication Technician, often referred to as an ICT Technician, is a professional who specializes in the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of information and communication technology (ICT) systems.

This is a crucial role that ensures a company's computer systems, networks, and communication technologies function properly.

What does an ICT Technician do?

ICT Technicians have varied responsibilities, depending on the size and industry of the company they work for.

On average, key responsibilities of an ICT Technician may include:

  • Installing and configuring computer systems, servers, networking equipment, software
  • Diagnosing and resolving hardware and software issues, including troubleshooting problems reported by users
  • Configuring and maintaining computer networks, including local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs)
  • Implementing and maintaining security measures to protect computer systems and networks from unauthorized access, malware, and other threats
  • Developing and implementing backup strategies to safeguard important data and ensuring available data recovery in case of system failures
  • Providing technical support and training to end-users
  • Maintaining up-to-date documentation related to system configurations, troubleshooting, and other relevant information

If you do an ICT Apprenticeship, how can you progress?

As you can see, an ICT Apprenticeship has varied job duties; this can help you understand which area of tech you enjoy the most, which can help you specialise further. What is more, this Apprenticeship is Level 3, which may be more accessible to you than Level 4.

Upon completing this Apprenticeship, many learners choose to specialise as Network Engineers or Cyber Security Technologists (both Level 4).
