Six Sigma Black Belt is the level awarded to a professional who has advanced understanding of the Lean Six Sigma methodology.

A certified Six Sigma Black Belt leads business improvement projects focussing on customer satisfaction, service delivery, cost control, process performance and new product introdution. They achieve this by applying the principles of Six Sigma using the project methodologies contained within - DMAIC and DMADV:

DMAIC - is the methodology used for projects aimed at improving existing business process. The DMAIC methodology has five phases which are Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control.

DMADV - is the methodology used for projects aimed at creating new product or process designs. The DMADV methodology also has five phases which are Define, Measure, Analyse, Design and Verify.
