Longwall Security bring their Cyber Consultants up to speed with Firebrand!
Longwall Security is a Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP) comprised of highly accredited industry experts who work with organisations to assess, improve, and maintain their Cyber Security posture.
Providing a range of bespoke security solutions, Longwall helps to secure systems, services, and data for organisations worldwide such as the NHS, Central Co-operative, Mitsubishi Electric, Unilever, and DS Smith—just to name a few.
Longwall pride themselves on being leading industry experts in Cyber Security. They continuously upskill their team so they can provide vital Cyber Security support and intelligence to clients across multiple industries. To achieve this, Longwall onboard and upskill their team with Firebrand. The results have been excellent.
“I first encountered Firebrand as a student myself, when I was taking the Certified Practitioner Intrusion Analyst (CPIA) certification from Crest,” explains Technical Director Mat Cornish.
“Then, around the time I was taking ISC2 CISSP, also with Firebrand, I took over Longwall’s relationship with Firebrand, working closely with our main contact, Alex Georgalla.
“We are an MSSP. We expect our team to self-study for the fundamentals, but, when it comes to complex topics, we use Firebrand Training. Our training focuses on Cyber Security, especially vendor-agnostic certifications from ISC2 and ISACA.
“Firebrand Passport allows me to plan my team’s development at the start of the year and commit. I know what my training budget is, I contact Alex to make sure the dates are available. He makes the booking process super easy. I can just tell the staff that’s where they’re going. I don’t have to book travel, exams, or worry about prerequisites.
“There are no POs, no back and forth, no red tape, which allows me to stay agile. I can plan out the year and also accommodate; if we have new starters, we can onboard them very quickly.
“We normally choose off-the-shelf certifications—ISC2 CISSP, ISACA CISM, ISC2 SSCP—and residential training. We really like the fact that we can pack a staff member off for 3 or 4 days and they come back with the experience and certification.
“We know everything is taken care of—accommodations, food, training, exam…Our people come back with experiences they’ve learned from their instructor or discussed in class. At the training centre, our people are together with their classmates in the evenings, which allows them to talk to people from other businesses and share ideas, forge new relationships…The Wyboston and Cranfield training centres are perfect for this; for exams, we tend to have Pearson VUE.
“In sum, Firebrand helps us standardise the level of training we provide new starters and existing consultants so they all have the same base knowledge. We use industry qualifications to ladder their training; when we send someone away, they come back not only with the course, e.g., a CISSP, but also a lot of discussion points.
“I can send my staff there and I don’t have to worry about anything. I know our people will go on the course, have a qualified instructor, and when they come back they’ll have new ideas and a certification to go with it. Firebrand is worry-free.”
