International Women’s Day — Inspiring colleagues: Emma Earey
This International Women’s Day, Firebrand Instructor Manager Emma Earey shares her take on challenges and opportunities for women in tech.
The IT training sector, like many areas of technology is dominated by men. For women working in this field, this gender imbalance can present unique challenges, meaning women have to work harder to build relationships, advocate change, and demonstrate their skills and knowledge.
The lack of female role models in IT training can make it difficult for women to envision their own success.
When leadership and senior technical roles are predominantly held by men, it can create an environment where women feel isolated and unsupported, this can lead to Imposter syndrome; the feeling of being a fraud despite evident success.
One of the most pervasive challenges women face in the IT training sector is gender bias. This can manifest in various ways, from subtle microaggressions to overt discrimination.
Women may find their technical expertise questioned more frequently than their male counterparts, or they might be pigeonholed into roles that are perceived as more "suitable" for women.
As an Instructor Manager at Firebrand, I have dedicated nearly eight years to developing the skills necessary to effectively support and manage my colleagues.
I oversee a diverse and highly experienced instructor community, comprised of industry experts from around the globe. Our team is committed to providing students with the highest quality learning experience, fostering an inclusive environment where both men and women contribute their expertise.
I am pleased to share that Firebrand fosters an environment and attitude that promotes a more equitable and dynamic industry for all.
