Course spotlight — PMI Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM®)
Whether standalone or as a stepping-stone to the PMP®, CAPM® validates the latest Project Management best practices. Let's explore this important course.
Developed by the Project Management Institute, the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM®) is one of our most sought-after Project Management certifications.
Could this course be right for you, or your team? Let's find out more.
What is the CAPM certification?
The PMI Certified Associate in Project Management® (CAPM®) helps you develop the skills you need to plan, initiate, develop, and close projects, including developing the Project Management plan, creating project schedules and budgets, analysing risk, and more.
Who is PMI-CAPM for?
The CAPM course was designed for Project Management professionals at the start of their careers, with under 25 hours of Project Management experience. The course is also suitable for career changers—for example, Sales or B.Com professionals wishing to pivot into full-time Project Management. (For Risk Management, check out the PMI-RMP®.)
This complex course takes you through Project Management Fundamentals and Core Concepts, Predictive, Plan-Based Methodologies, Agile Frameworks/Methodologies, and Business Analysis Frameworks.
At Firebrand, the course ends with taking the official CAPM exam. Whether you're taking this course yourself or need to onboard new staff, this certification gives you the necessary tools to handle a variety of projects.
How does CAPM® compare to the PMP®?
Many delegates ask us this. Both certifications are issued by the respected Project Management Institute and recognised worldwide. The one that's best for you depends on your educational background, experience, and career goals.
To take the CAPM course, you only need a high-school diploma, GED, or equivalent, as well as hands-on experience managing projects. To take the Project Management Professional® (PMP®), you need to have more practical experience compared to the CAPM and, generally, a college or university degree. This is because the PMP curriculum and exam are more in-depth.
In essence, becoming CAPM-certified attests that you can apply Project Management best practices, whilst achieving the PMP certification is more valuable if you wish to prove your ability to lead projects and direct project teams.
What are the benefits of achieving the CAPM?
As mentioned above, the CAPM was developed by the respected Project Management Institute and is recognised worldwide. Achieving the CAPM certifies that you understand and can apply the latest Project Management methodology and best practices according to the structured approach PMI is well-known for.
The knowledge you learn on this course can be applied to any industry and company size, increasing your job prospects and the salary you can demand. Whether you choose to take the CAPM on its own or progress to the PMP, the CAPM can boost your career by validating important Project Management skills.

Does this course include an exam? What is it like?
Yes. As part of our accelerated course, you can sit the official CAPM ® certification exam. You must pass this exam to get your CAPM certification.
It's a challenging exam that assesses your understanding of the PMBOK Guide and applying PMI's Project Management best practices to real-life scenarios. You have 3 hours to answer 150 multiple-choice questions (closed-book), so time management is essential too. The CAPM exam is considered slightly 'easier' than the PMP, but, as mentioned above, the certification that is most worthwhile for you depends on your experience and goals.
At Firebrand, PMI courses are taught by certified instructors with decades of experience who ensure you are ready for exam day. This exam prep is especially valuable for delegates with little experience in Project Management. The official passing score you need to achieve varies between 60 and 70%.
Also, the cost of the CAPM exam is included in your course fees. And, as part of the Firebrand Certification Guarantee, if you do not pass the exam, you can retake the course for free, paying only for accommodations and incidentals.
