Overview
This accelerated GIAC Industrial Control Fundamentals for All course is designed to provide an introduction to aspects of Operational Technology design and use in industrial applications.
The aims of the course are to provide an understanding of ICS design, configuration, operations and maintenance principles in a real-world context. At the course outset, students will be presented with a statement that defines the requirement for a simple industrial process system.
Over two days, you will be shown how this requirement is met using Operational Technology. The principles of sensors, logic solvers and control end elements are covered, along with selection for the process system being designed. There are demonstrations of real-world industrial equipment, plus you will get to complete exercises and labs to get hands-on configuration with simulated equipment.
By the end of the course, you will have seen a complete ICS take shape, including human operator and data historian interfaces.
On this course you’ll gain an understanding of why an ICS environment is fundamentally different to an IT environment, despite sharing much technology and cyber vulnerabilities. This knowledge is highly beneficial in fostering understanding between IT and OT Security, Plant Operations and Plant Engineering teams, and will significantly assist in Incident Prevention and Response scenarios.
In just 2 days, you’ll be familiar with:
- Basics of industrial communications
- Human Machine Interface (HMI) fundamentals
- Process sensor operations and communication
- Controller decision-making and machinery management
- Operational and machinery safety concepts
Through Firebrand’s Lecture | Lab | Review methodology, you’ll get certified at twice the speed of traditional training and get access to courseware, learn from certified instructors, and train in a distraction-free environment.
