Firebrand Training Centre is Open!

The Firebrand training centre is open! Read this blog to find out what it means for you, and how we've ensured your safety when attending courses.

Update: September 2020. The Firebrand Training centre is now open. Read on to find out the latest information on the reopening of the Firebrand Training centre and what it means for you.

The Firebrand Training centre has been officially reopened and is accepting students who are comfortable attending their training in-person.

We have been working extremely hard to ensure that our Wyboston Lakes facility meets all government regulations for safe workplaces so that our learners have the option to complete their training in the safest environment possible; whether that means in-person or online.

We are excited for things to return to some form of normality, however, we are committed to ensuring this is done in the safest way possible by listening to any concerns from our attendees. We are also reviewing government policy, and constantly adapting and changing our approach in reaction to new information.

This blog has been written to reassure those wishing to attend training in person that our training centre is a safe environment to complete their accelerated course.

We try to address the most pressing questions below, but should you have any other doubts, please contact us and we'll be happy to help.

Does this mean I have to attend in-person?

There's no pressure at all for you to attend your course in-person. Courses will continue to run online as well as in the classroom in a hybrid fashion.

How safe is the Wyboston Lakes centre?

Wyboston Lakes hosted training and overnight guests throughout the lockdown, as it was a base for key workers to attend their own training, and has been operating successfully and safely since officially reopening.

There are strong social distancing and hygiene practices in place onsite.

Firebrand’s approach aligns with government advice on safe workplaces. We continue to monitor government advice - which may become more or less restrictive - and react accordingly.

If you have any questions, please contact us on admin@firebrandtraining.co.uk.

What measures is Firebrand taking to safeguard my health during the stay?

The following measures have been completed and maintained for your safety:
  • All onsite staff have attended specific Covid-19 training
  • An independent risk assessment has been completed to ensure we’re following all correct procedures - this is available on request
  • Government advice will be reviewed multiple times per week, and policy updated accordingly

Social distancing

All staff and students must always practice social distancing, by standing at least two meters away from others. Signage and floor stickers are in place to ensure social distancing is maintained, and class sizes are capped to allow the required spacing.

Other measures include:
  • Screen guards at all reception areas
  • A one-way system is in place across the site, made clear with stickers and signage
  • Student entry, exit, and break times are staggered to reduce cross-over between classes
  • Bedroom check-in and check-out is contact-free

Hygiene

There is a deep-clean before each course starts, and the frequency of cleaning and disinfecting has been increased in all public places to at least once every two hours. Additionally:
  • A stylus can be requested upon arrival for the use of touch screens found on coffee and vending machines
  • Hand sanitiser is available at all staff and student entrances and in all classrooms
  • Contact points have been removed wherever possible and equipment is not shared
  • Students are welcome to bring their own mug, cup, and/or cutlery; disposable options are available

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

PPE equipment is provided to all staff where appropriate and training has been provided on its correct use.

The current government advice on face coverings means that, because there are already strong social distancing measures in place throughout the centre, it is a Firebrand student or staff member’s choice if they choose to wear a face mask.

Facemasks can be provided on request.

Ventilation

In order to keep spaces ventilated, the following procedures are now practised:
  • Aircon systems are set to max airflow
  • Doors are opened when and where appropriate/possible to promote further fresh air
  • There are regular breaks, where you'll be able to go outside where possible

Food and drink

Social distancing is actioned in the dining room where there is a buffet service with screens in place where appropriate.

Fruit and snacks have been removed from the reception area of the training centre and a designated refreshments area has been created with social distancing measures introduced.

Bedrooms

The following procedures have been implemented to ensure our bedrooms are as safe as possible:
  • All unnecessary items have been removed e.g. throws, dressing gowns, and magazines
  • The rooms are not serviced unless the stay exceeds 4 nights
  • Once a delegate has checked out, their room will remain unoccupied for 72 hours before being reoccupied

What if a student or staff shows Covid-19 symptoms?

It is extremely important that students do not attend the site if they are showing any of the symptoms of Covid-19 including:
  • High temperature
  • New, continuous cough
  • Loss of change to your sense of smell or taste

If an individual develops symptoms onsite, it is paramount they stay away from others, isolate themselves, and contact reception immediately.

Additionally, temperatures will be discretely checked upon arrival to the centre by a thermal imaging system.
