Overview

Firebrand's accelerated course is designed to prepare you for Scrum.org's Professional Scrum Developer Java certification exam.

Attaining the Professional Scrum Developer certification demonstrates you have the skills required to enhance your team's efficiency and productivity.

This course teaches you software development using Scrum and Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) tools. You'll learn how to implement the tools, using both Scrum and Agile best practices.

Requirements are discussed based on your own issues and acceptance criteria:

Scrum

  • Run complete Sprints
  • Plan the Sprints in Sprint Planning Meetings
  • Daily Scrums
  • Track progress with burndowns
  • Sprint Reviews with stakeholders
  • Reflect experiences and understandings in Sprint Retrospectives
  • Work according to a Definition of Done

Agile

  • Story Points and Planning Poker estimation
  • Test driven development and test first
  • Code smells and refactoring
  • Continuous integration
  • Development in pairs

Benefits

The three areas of knowledge that you'll take away from Firebrand's course:

  • Scrum - you'll practice being part of a Scrum team, so you'll see the core concepts in action. This will help you to practice self-organisation, and learn how to identify and overcome common Scrum team dysfunctions
  • Tools - this course can focus on either Eclipse + IBM Rational Jazz or Eclipse + Open Source tools. You'll learn how to map the tools to the relevant Scrum practices
  • Best practices:
    • Coding - test-driven development, continuous integration and refactoring
    • Architecture - emergent architecture and evolutionary database development
    • Release management - planning, requirements definition, and shipment
    • Quality assurance - defining "done", pair programming, version control and acceptance testing.
