HR Trends in Tech: What to Look Forward to in 2023

Cloud computing, AI, and machine learning are fast becoming driving forces in the field of HR. Over $17 billion plus investment poured into HR tech in 2021, a figure that’s set to increase even further by the close of 2022.

With HR tech helping companies create sustainable, productive and engaged work environments, it’s essential to be prepared for what’s to come. So, let's take a look at HR trends to watch out for as we move into 2023.

AI in human resources

In 2023 it’s expected that many companies will need to remodel their HR tech infrastructure, by incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) into core operations. From onboarding to retirement, AI has the capacity to provide better ways to connect with candidates and employees and offer them a more personalised experience.

AI can help to automate processes and communications, saving companies time and money. Chatbots, for example, can be used to communicate with employees and applicants without any need for human intervention.

HR and passive listening

AI software can observe and aggregate behavioural and communication patterns, and answer questions about the work environment. AI-enabled analytics platforms can help companies identify leave trends, as well as be alerted to employees who are at risk of leaving. HR AI-assisted technology can also ask how regularly employees use a particular piece of software or reveal how often managers meet with their teams.

Cloud and HR

Cloud-based HR systems will become ever more the norm, in terms of helping HR to manage the workforce, evaluate performance, and collaborate with teams. Cloud technology allows HR to access employee data in real-time, from anywhere in the world, to enable more informed decision-making. The cloud makes it easy for global teams to work together productively, and, by giving employees self-service cloud based HR solutions, staff are empowered to do their jobs more efficiently and effectively.

HR and the hybrid workplace

Forrester predicts that 60% of organisations will shift to hybrid working patterns. However, there are barriers to doing so effectively. In particular, there’s the difficulty of creating an engaging work environment for employees, both when they’re in the workplace, and when they’re working remotely.

HR needs to solve the challenge by offering increased interconnectivity and engagement. Gamification, online leader boards, online hangouts and mobile learning opportunities can all work towards increasing employee satisfaction and motivation.

Hiring, screening, interviewing and onboarding will continue via online portals, so companies will need to invest further in high quality HR technology that provides the best virtual communication experiences.

Learning & development in HR

HR leaders feel they’re falling behind when it comes to reaping the rewards of HR technology investment, with only 59% currently using HR analytics and 54% automation.

Developing HR staff in the relevant tech skills will therefore be a key issue going forward.
