Overview
This course is intended to give a foundation-level knowledge, skills and behaviours to specialist cybercrime units involved in the Prepare, Protect, Prevent and Pursue strategy for cyber.
This course focuses on the skills required to:
- Understand and define the key concepts of cybersecurity, cybercrime and cyber-enabled crime.
- Understand and apply knowledge of core ICT systems and networks.
- Understand and apply the relevant laws, regulations, standards and guidelines involved within cybercrime and the collection of digital evidence.
- Understand the core aspects of Prepare, Prevent, Protect and Pursue when related to cybercrime.
- Understand and apply the principles of digital forensics in line with relevant standards.
At course completion learners will have knowledge of the following areas:
- Cybercrime Investigation – Law and Practice.
- Fundamentals of computers, ICT systems and devices.
- Concepts and application of virtualisation in support of an investigation.
- Fundamentals of networking frameworks and protocols including wireless technologies and the collection of relevant material in support of an investigation.
- Collection and analysis of digital evidence from computer systems, networks and devices including imaging techniques, wireless surveys and kiosk-style triage of material.
- Fundamentals of cloud-based technologies and the application of relevant legal and regulatory frameworks.
- Open source intelligence and investigation, including the Surface, Deep and Dark Web.
- Cybersecurity concepts, including an understanding of IoCs, TTPs and current threat actors.
- Cybersecurity risk.
- Cryptography and the employment of cryptographic systems.
- Cryptocurrency concepts and investigation.
- Neurodiversity.
At the end of this course, you will have proven that you have the knowledge to define and identify the core aspects of cybersecurity and cybercrime. You will also be able to conduct fundamental investigations of digital systems and analyse digital material as part of an investigation or in fast-time support for interview situations.

Prerequisites
Delegates should have completed a series of College of Policing packages prior to attendance and be actively involved in a law enforcement, MoD or HMG agency cyber-related units or an investigation team.
