What is TOGAF®?

What is TOGAF®?

TOGAF® stands for The Open Group Architecture Framework. It is a methodology and a set of supporting tools specifically for fields in enterprise architecture.

The Open Group is globally renowned for their innovative standards around the use of open-source software. Achieving a TOGAF® certification has proven essential for businesses to remain current in open-source standards. TOGAF® is now used by 80% of Global companies, including Phillips, Fujitsu, and IBM – asserting their authority as a trusted source of education.

The TOGAF® certification portfolio encompasses learning paths and certifications for Bodies of Knowledge based on both the TOGAF® Standard, Version 9.2 and the TOGAF® Standard, 10th Edition.

New learning paths introduced to support the TOGAF® Standard, 10th Edition include direct paths from TOGAF® 9 Foundation and upwards, and recognition of TOGAF® 9 certification with the bridge path.

What kind of architecture is TOGAF® designed to support?

TOGAF® splits Enterprise Architecture into four main areas:

  • Business Architecture – processes, design and optimisation
  • Applications Architecture – creating strategic architectures
  • Infrastructure Architecture – networks, hardware, security, server locations, operating systems and capacity
  • Data Architecture – placement, requirements, maintenance and reporting

If you're an architect who is looking for an introduction and / or to achieve Level 2 certification, this is the course for you.

The latest version of TOGAF® is the TOGAF® Enterprise Architecture 10th Edition, which is part of the leading Open Enterprise Architecture standards.

How to become TOGAF® certified

Before you enter the enterprise architecture elite, you’ll need to pass two standard TOGAF® Enterprise Architecture exams, either separately or as a combined course:

  • Level 1: Foundation
  • Level 2: Certified

If you are already TOGAF® 9 certified and would like to update your skills to encompass the 10th Edition certification, there is also a Bridge course available

These exams are challenging and it’s essential to keep up to date with the study material. Luckily, there are ways to prepare for your exam with resources that won’t cost you a penny.

What are TOGAF® employment possibilities?

Passing a TOGAF® exam opens doors to one of the most in-demand jobs today.

These days, there is a high level of interest in Enterprise Architecture, which makes TOGAF® one of the most desirable architecture-based certifications.

You could work directly for organisations such as banks, manufacturers, retailers, government agencies, etc., or in an Enterprise Architecture consultancy.

Most large corporations now have their own architecture consultancies including HP, IBM, Capgemini, and many more... all currently recruiting!

Covering Business, IT, and Data, The Open Group Architecture Framework ticks all the right boxes in any modern enterprise’s list. And the value of a TOGAF® certification certainly jumps to the eye, with a median UK salary of £89,000 for a certified professional.

Pass the individual or TOGAF® Combined exams and you’ll prove you know how to implement the world’s most reliable enterprise architecture (EA). By using TOGAF® in your organisation, you’ll be able to develop an EA that’s flexible, consistent, and employs best practice.
