I've always been a bit of a geek at heart and enjoyed programming in my younger years, did the typical build your own Sinclair scientific calculator and spectrum and studied IT. I started in IT as a support monkey and have over the years worked my way through to currently being a Desktop Architect predominantly designing desktop Windows solutions using SCCM CB. Up until this point I never really specialised, so used to be involved with programming, servers, AD and GPO work.

I was sent on the 6 day intensive MCSA Windows 10 course, which really is mind numbingly intensive. I passed the Microsoft 70-698 Installing and Configuring Windows 10 exam but unfortunately just missed out, by 1 question the Microsoft 70-697 Configuring Windows Devices exam which I still have to re-sit.

Working in the IT industry and being around Windows 10 all the time I was actually surprised how much of Windows 10 I actually didn’t know. In industry, you get to know very well the bits that the customers tend to use and hardly ever touch other areas which aren’t used, so for me personally I actually learnt quite a lot.

Next steps are to retake the Microsoft 70-697 Configuring Windows Devices exam and pass and then think about getting certified for SCCM. Lately, the IT industry is more and more asking for individuals to be officially certified, to some extent experience which has always counted for the most needs now to be backed up with official qualifications.
