What is IAPP CIPP/E®?

CIPP/E® was created by IAPP, the world's largest information privacy resource and community. This comprehensive course is accredited under ISO 17024:2012 and considered the global gold standard for European Data Protection.

The course teaches you key data protection terminology and important concepts about the protection of personal data and trans-border data flows. The course is vital for professionals working in Europe or whose employers trade with European companies.

Who is CIPP/E® for?

Anyone interested in European Data Protection can take this course; there are no prerequisites to attend.

The course is especially recommended to professionals who work with Data Protection processes and programmes, such as:

• Information Managers
• Security Managers
• Human Resource Officers
• Information and Compliance Officers

as well as Auditors and Data Protection Lawyers.

Should I take CIPP/E® or AIGP®?

IAPP also provide a course specialised in AI Governance, the IAPP Artificial Intelligence Governance Professional® (AIGP®), and some delegates wonder whether to take CIPP/E® or go directly for AIGP®.

It depends on the focus of your career. If you're interested in Governance and work with EU data, achieving CIPP/E® certification is very important. If, as part of this focus, you'd also like to stay up-to-date with AI developments, AIGP® is an excellent, comprehensive certification to add to your toolkit, as it focuses on the responsible use of AI, a topic which is becoming increasingly important to companies worldwide.

If, on the other hand, you come from a stronger AI background and are just interested in Governance within the scope of AI, CIPP/E® may not be that useful, and it may be best to study for AIGP® directly. AIGP® is a comprehensive course, so be sure you allow sufficient time to study for the exam.
