13.1 Identify Stakeholders

"The process of identifying the people, groups, or organisations that could impact or be impacted by a decision, activity, or outcome of the project; and analysing and documenting relevant information regarding their interests, involvement, inter-dependencies, influence and potential impact on project success."

Stakeholder – anyone internal or external to the project, who has an interest in the project, or could be impacted by it.

The PM:

  • Identifies all stakeholders impacted by the project early in the project,
  • Analyzes their interest, expectations, importance and influence – critical to project success to do so
  • Documents and classifies stakeholder by their interests, attitude, influence, involvement, and impact in the Stakeholder Register.
  • Works closely with the Communications Management Plan
