Overview
Gain an introduction to information security in just three days on this accelerated GIAC Information Security Fundamentals (GISF) course.
If you have little to no background in Informtation Technology, your GISF training will give you a solid grounding in security concepts, principles and terms. You'll bridge the gap that often exists between managers and system administrators.
During your accelerated GISF course you'll cover topics including:
- Authentication, Authorisation, Accountability
- Data Protection
- Networking Policy and Procedures
You'll develop the skills to better protect your business, which can often hinge upon the fundamentals covered during your training.
Firebrand's course will prepare you for the GIAC Information Security Fundamentals (GISF) exam certification and provides knowledge equivalent to the SANS SEC301: Intro to Information Security

Authentication, Authorisation, Accountability (AAA)
- The candidate will demonstrate an understanding of access controls and effective authentication, authorisation and accountability
Configuration Management and Change Control
- The candidate will demonstrate an understanding of maintaining security through configuration management and change control
Cryptography Fundamentals
- The candidate will demonstrate a fundamental understanding of cryptographic algorithms and how cryptography is used to protect information and communications
Data Protection
- The candidate will demonstrate an understanding of protecting data through data classification, business continuity, disaster recovery, data loss prevention, and incident response
Information Security Principles and Risk Management
- The candidate will demonstrate an understanding of fundamental information security and risk management concepts
Networking Foundations
- The candidate will demonstrate an understanding of the OSI model, networking protocols, and other network-related concepts
Networking Security
- The candidate will demonstrate an understanding of securing networks from common attacks against wired, wireless, VoIP, virtual and cloud based network services
Security Policy and Procedures
- The candidate will demonstrate an understanding of operational security through effective policies, procedures, security awareness, and physical security controls
Systems Security
- The candidate will demonstrate an understanding of securing systems, applications and mobile devices from
Exam Track
This course will prepare you for the following exam. The exam fee is not included in the course price. If you wish to take the exam, we’ll provide instructions on how to register with GIAC.
GIAC Information Security Fundamentals (GISF) exam
- 75 questions
- Time limit of 2 hours
- Minimum Passing Score of 70%
You will be required to renew your GISF certification every four years through Continuing Professional Experience (CPE) credits.
