Valentine's Day — Love is in the air, but is it in the office?
Only 17% of British workers love their job. Could employers prevent this?
If your staff are feeling a bit meh about their job, they’re actually not alone. In fact, according to a recent UK YouGov poll, only 17% of British workers love their job, and more than half of employees have said they’re unhappy at work.
Whilst we can’t stop Brenda from microwaving fish in the office cafeteria or the daily argument over the air con, we can offer a Cupid’s arrow of training courses and apprenticeships that can help lift the mood and have your staff falling back in love with their jobs in no time.
Now of course, we’re a training provider so we’re always going to shout about on-the-job training such as apprenticeships as a key tool in boosting job satisfaction. But there are numerous studies that also show that training and development is a key way to boost morale!
For example, Noe, R.A., Wilk, S.L., Mullen E.J. and Wanek, J.E . took a look into the relationship between employee development with a focus on training and job satisfaction and found that continuous learning and development opportunities significantly contribute to higher levels of job satisfaction.
They’re not the only ones, DeSimone, R. L., Werner, J.M. and Harris D.M . explored the impact of employee training on job satisfaction and they found when employees were provided with opportunities for skills development, they also expressed higher levels of job satisfaction.
So we’ve probably convinced you by now that investing in your employees’ training and development will make your workforce happier at work, but, like any relationship, it’s got to be two-sided, right? So what’s in it for you?
A study by the Association for Talent Development(ATD) has shown that companies that invest in employee training enjoy a 24% higher profit margin than those that don’t. If that’s not enough to convince you, the same study went on to show that the companies that did invest in training reaped the benefits with a 6% higher shareholder return!
The businesses we speak to often tell us that the cost of recruiting new staff is only getting higher, and it’s often months before they see ROI. According to LinkedIn Learning, 94% of employees would stay longer at a company if they invested in their career development. Say goodbye to recruiter fees!
We’d love to help your employees fall in love with their jobs and careers as well as build a long-lasting relationship with your business that works off communication, trust, and honesty. If this sounds good to you, we might be a perfect match! So as love fills the air, let it extend into the office with a commitment to the growth and satisfaction of your most valuable asset—your workforce!
❤️
