Learner focus — Apprenticeships or Skills Bootcamps? Why not both?
If you’re looking for skills that’ll boost your career without going to uni, you’ve probably come across both Apprenticeships and Skills Bootcamps. They’re two really popular options for getting the skills you need to enter the IT industry, but what are they? Can you do both? How do they work?
Today we’ll be taking a look at how you can utilise both Apprenticeships and Skills Bootcamps to get the job you want and running through a general overview of both, and the similarities and differences between them.
First up, Apprenticeships.
Apprenticeships are a more long-term commitment, they can last anywhere from 12 months to 4 years depending on the level and the subject you choose!
They’re a perfect blend of hands-on learning in the workplace and classroom time. The cool thing about Apprenticeships is, obviously, that you get paid! The starting pay might not be a fortune, but as you gain experience and skills, your earnings will go up. At the end of your Apprenticeship, you’ll get some recognised qualifications and certifications, and most courses also include professional membership to industry institutions, such as British Computer Society (BCS).
Now let’s talk Skills Bootcamps.
They’re like espresso shots of learning, usually lasting around twelve weeks. They’re pretty intense and they’re laser-focused on specific skills such as Coding or Data Analysis. This means you’ll develop a new skill quickly, which is great if you’re looking to enter a new industry or just want to learn something new.
You’ll also get interview practise at the end of your Skills Bootcamp and, for some lucky candidates, it can even lead to a job with the employer that's sponsoring your Bootcamp.
But which one is right for you? And do you have to choose between them?
It’s worth considering what your ultimate goal is, if you’re in a hurry to join the workforce and want to master a specific skill quickly, then Skills Bootcamps are definitely calling your name. However, if you’re thinking about a lifelong career and love the idea of a well-rounded education, Apprenticeships might be more your jam.
Also, consider your learning style. If you thrive in practical hands-on situations, say hello to an Apprenticeship, but if you’re a quick learner who benefits from short sharp courses, a Bootcamp might be your perfect match.
But…You don’t have to choose between them. Many of our Bootcamps lead to great Apprenticeships. Get in touch with us today and let us help you find your future.
